about

Composed for the installation curated by Théo Mercier and Céline Peychet at Prague Quadrennial 2023, this musical piece accompanies the vision of an urban landscape at a standstill, after a violent landslide.

GUT CITY PUNCH is a site-specific installation entirely sculpted in sand, that deals with the massive urbanization and the guts of our soils. Within the framework of an international fair, the project formulates a radical production model based on the borrowing of materials in short circuit, somewhere in tension between a maximalist visual impact and a minimalist ecological impact.

Specially composed for the installation, the music completes this scene of desolation. Imagined as the gentle, heart-rending love song of a gutted street, it exposes the relationships that weave themselves in the invisible of our cities. Its sentimental themes, evoking in turn courtly love and the cries of disappointed passion, come and go like spectres, bright and muted, as if escaping from torn pipes and a complex network of unearthed drains. The piano, hero of sentimental music, rubs shoulders with inhuman voices, borborygms, short circuits and raw textures, in a blend of Noise, Renaissance laments and soundtracks for chick flicks.
